Silk Painting

I recently completed a one week basic textile design/silk painting workshop presented by my old (high)schoolmate, Clara.  She is a patient and encouraging teacher and so creative.

I enjoyed myself tremendously and learned a new skill.  I managed to secure scraps of silk, kindly provided by a very generous fellow student, Natalia, and immediately tried my hand at a design, which I stretched on an embroidery hoop.

Practice makes perfect, so I need to practice some more. I wanted the green and her hair to be a lot brighter, but I'm happy with the colour of her face area.  The resist was too thick in some areas, though.  I have to definitely work on that.

In addition to the small bottles of water-based gutta resist and textile paints we received in the workshop, I purchased some of my own, locally at Deltex Art Shop.  I also got myself some stretcher bars for working on the blank scarves that I recently ordered  and received, together with clear and black gutta, from Dharma Trading.

I'm awaiting the silver, gold and black resist, the steel push pins and three different sizes of applicator tips that I ordered from dickblick.com.

Fun times ahead!
